Just in time

November 5, 2011

It has been a rough time lately. Without going into great detail, I will just say I have been a bit down.

Luckily, I recently have become friends with a couple who have brought some light back into my life. Even though I have been down and I am not the most outgoing person, they have accepted me and invited me into their lives, with no reservations. They have invited me to go skating with them, twice so far. Last week I actually skated; this week I hung out in the cafe with the other people who did not skate.

They also have offered to help me with my Russian and asked me to come to their English school to help them a bit, which I did today. Last night and today – let’s just say I really needed them. When a person is feeling down, or when I am feeling down, I need to feel like there are people out there who care about me. Especially when I am hurting. Last night and today I felt like people cared about me. My friend A also came to the skating rink, then walked me part of the way home afterward. After a full day with teenagers today, I had a happy surprise in that I was invited to their parents’ house for dinner – borscht, plov, cake (not the dry and too-sweet cakes I usually have here), and good conversation – in Russian. When I faltered for words, they helped me find them.

So today was a good day. And just in time, because I was feeling pretty down. I like the good days, and treasure them. I wish there were more of them!

I appreciate your authenticity, Karin. And you defined friendship nicely: “When I faltered for words, they helped me find them.”
